Chocolate Guinness Cake

bake at 350 degrees

use buttered spring form pan lined with parchment paper

1 9 inch cake, 12 servings

prep time, 15 minutes, plus 45 minutes baking

  • 1 c. guinness
  • 10 Tbsp. butter
  • 3/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 c. confectioners sugar
  • 3/4 c. sourcream (or yogurt)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 c. all purpose flour
  • 2.5 tsp. baking soda

topping (optional)

  • 1 1/4 c. confectioners sugar
  • 8 oz. cream cheese at room temperature
  • 1/2 c. heavy cream


  1. combine guiness and butter in saucepan over medium heat until butter melts.
  2. remove from heat and whisk cocoa and sugar until sugar dissolves
  3. combine eggs, vanilla, sour cream in a small bowl.
  4. Add these ingredients to guiness
  5. Add flour and baking soda, and whisk until smooth
  6. Pour into pan (buttered and parchment papered) and bake until risen and firm, 45mins-1 hour
