decent eats in South Lake/ was: Why does South Lake suck so much?

Two votes for:
Tep's Villa Roma (3450 Lake Tahoe Blvd)
The Naked Fish (3940 Lake Tahoe Blvd)

- Raw data -

Luber:

The Indian place that's annexed to the Howard Johnson's on 50 just

down from the Brewery isn't bad, I also like the sushi place (Naked Fish?) next door to Alpen Sierra (the best coffee in the world!) at the eastern junction of 50 & Pioneer. For breakfast I like the place across the street from my favorite fleabag motel, the Apex Inn, western end of town on 50 just past the eastern junction of Pioneer - sorry I'm not so good on names. If you're headed back up 50 stop at the St. Pauli Inn in Twin Bridges(?) big plates of decent German food.

Richard:

Years ago I ate a couple times at a place which I think is called

Tep's Villaroma which is along south shore towards the Kingsbury grade. I don't think they're a corporate chain, seemed more like a family run Italian restaurant. Pretty good food and lots of it. Some veggie options. [I ended up eating there last Saturday, and indeed it's about the best I've found in town, though the portions were, of course, too small. Mark]

Scott:

Hmm... there are two places I've eaten happily at in s. tahoe; one

is closed. The other is a pizza place... Grand Central Pizza & Pasta

Matt:

About three weekends ago, some locals told us about this mexican

restaurant in the Lakeside casino which is on the far end of town (on the Nevada side). It is a small, dumpy casino, but the mexican food is really good and really cheap. The place is called Taberna. As you drive out on 50, the Lakeside casino is basically the last major building on the left, after the golf course. The restaurant is downstairs in the back, you drive through an underpass below the casino to get to it.

This is the first place in South Lake that I would actually

recommend. Besides Rude Brothers Bagels, which is another great place for breakfast sandwiches and coffee.

Kelly:

Steamers has good bar food and I've had good luck with a Chinese

palce--can't remember the name or anything Good idea, thanks

Ari:

The naked fish is a good sushi restaurant. It's on 50, not sure what

the cross street is. It's not too far from the casinos...

Adam Singer:

Samurai sushi. Pretty good stuff. Great environment, and they have

a tasty tempura and a few good vegi rolls.

Gordon Ye:

South Lake lacks pretentious and trendy-looking establishments, but

decent food is easy to find (if you don't worry about corporate chains and other things that have nothing to do with food). I'd go to an easy-going place any day over the trendy, popularones, where you might have to wait in line for an hour. Check out the places along Hwy 89 towards Emerald Bay. There are also plenty of reasonable places on Hwy 50 about 2-3 miles before you get to Stateline.

Peter Spoerl:

Don't know about food, but if you're looking for good beer, support

my buddy Jeff's amazing little brewery, Mt. Tallac Brewing. He doesn't really have a brew pub, but if you stop by, he'll give you a tour and he always has everything on tap. Amazing suds. - (530) 541-7405 2060 Eloise Ave, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150

lobay@EECS.Berkeley.EDU:

Lake Tahoe Pizza - just south of the Y on US50, west side of the hwy

(across the street from Snowshoe Thompson's ski rental). Good pizza and beer.

Nicole Clock:

Try the Divided Sky bar and grille. Really good food-but a bit of a

wait if its crowded.

Chris the unhelpful:

my family and I had good eats in South Lake at some kinda hippy

organic veggie sorta place, but I forget what it's called. Which makes this email slightly less than helpful, except for telling you that the holy grail existed at least once upon a time...June 2003, to be precise. Some sorta cafe, maybe with sunshine/sunrise in the name? But maybe not...On the lakeward side of whatever road it was on.
